Shelby Slaughter

Environmental Law Scholar – Class of 2025

Shelby Slaughter is a second year student at UCI Law and an aspiring environmental lawyer. She studied environmental science and environmental engineering at UCLA, where she led a student research team examining energy industry regulatory compliance and industrial impacts on indigenous populations. Before attending law school, she worked for a communications consulting firm focused on sustainability and social impact.

In her time at UCI, she has been active in the First Generation Professionals and Real Estate and Land Use clubs, and completed over 50 hours of pro bono casework. Last summer, she interned for the LA County Counsel’s Office in its Property Division, researching issues involving the Subdivision Map Act and Property Assessed Clean Energy Programs. This fall she has been researching arctic environmental law issues for UCI Law faculty. In her free time Shelby enjoys detective novels and classic movies.
